The World is my Oyster
First Day of glorious summer vacations! Truthfully, the dominant feeling is more a sense of bewilderment than the expected excitement, relief or joy. Joining mid year meant that I’m not as weary of University as others, and my light workload this semester ensured I didn’t feel burdened with study. Also, I am so used to things being already planned out, a trip to the relatives, programs with friends, that the blank canvas is a little frightening. Nevertheless, I have vowed to make this period these holidays’ the best days of my life’. Heck I’m 18 (!) years old, in the land of opportunity… don’t have many friends? make ‘em!
So today, like the obedient daughter I am, I got to doing some urgent household chores…like opening the pool for the summer! I called “Shelley’s Pool Experts”. And she came with her young daughters who had to take the day off from school to help their mother, and earn some money(clearly school isn’t that important). The cover had to be rolled off, walls had to scrubbed for algae, a bunch of chemicals put in, baskets and filters cleaned, vacuumed for debris, just like a carpet, pump started, pH and water lever checked…all very exciting. But Ma, being who she is could only see the effort and money pit she had put herself in. By the end, even after writing everything down, it felt we’d need her services soon, actually, Friday.
Well, that got me pumped with enthusiasm so I proceeded to fill five bags with leaves raked from our front and side lawns, which by the way is a NEVER ending job, the leaves of the gumtree shed like the tears of women in indian serials. Waa! Then we put potting mixture and planted flowers in a …pot (what else!) The border of the driveway, which though was already ‘landscaped’ with those small pebbles Ma wanted to fill with plants, more specifically Ajuga reptans/ burgundy lace, for reasons beyond me. Side note-digging those stubborn stones out is not fun. Then I watered them, the sprinklers emerging from underground in the lawn look so cute! Then I hung out with the internet for a few hours and here I am.
P.S. Despair not young ladies, the summer romance WILL come…xoxo.
